About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Brighton and Hove, The Lucky Star Restaurant Brighton is a haven for lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine, especially those craving the vibrant, comforting flavors of regional Chinese fare. Located conveniently at 101 Trafalgar St, this restaurant offers an inviting atmosphere that perfectly balances the casual charm of a bustling eatery with the warmth of a traditional Hong Kong-style dining experience.

The cuisine at The Lucky Star is a celebration of boldness and variety, with an emphasis on hearty, soul-satisfying dishes that transport you straight to the streets of China. Among the standout offerings, the Spicy Hot Pot comes highly recommended—rich, aromatic, and perfect for sharing, especially on chilly evenings. The tender, simmering broth beautifully complements the fresh, diverse ingredients, from the spicy hot pot beef to seafood noodles, creating an immersive and interactive dining ritual that novice and aficionados alike will appreciate.

For noodle enthusiasts, dishes like the Stew Beef Noodle (川味牛腩面) and the Beijing Mixed Noodles (老北京杂酱面) showcase the restaurant’s mastery of complex yet balanced flavors — think melt-in-your-mouth beef brisket paired with a broth that is deeply satisfying and imbued with layers of spice and umami. Those who gravitate towards dim sum will be delighted by the delicate Steamed Dumplings and the flavorful Pork and Chinese Leaves Dumplings, each bite bursting with fresh ingredients and crafted with precision.

The menu further impresses with its variety, from the fiery intensity of Chilli Squid to the subtle earthiness of Chinese Mushrooms with Pak Choi. And for those with a sweet tooth, the Fried Banana offers a comforting, lightly crispy finish that rounds off the meal beautifully.

What sets The Lucky Star apart is not just the food but the dining experience as a whole. Guests consistently praise the staff for their warm hospitality and knowledgeable service, particularly when guiding first-timers through the unique hot pot experience. This personalized attention ensures every visit feels special and approachable, fostering a welcoming environment where flavors and culture come alive with every dish served.

Complementing the robust menu are beverages that range from traditional Herbal Tea and Aloe Juice to classic soft drinks like Coca Cola and Sanpellegrino Sparkling Water, thoughtfully curated to enhance your meal.

As one delighted diner, Débora Luísa, notes, “The staff were very attentive and friendly... The food is amazing and offers great value for money. I highly recommend it!” Similarly, patrons return time and again to savor dishes like Sweet and Sour Pork and Kung Pao Chicken, praising both the quality and generous portions.

Incredible experience! The staff were very attentive and friendly. It was our first time trying Hot Pot, and the staff member was extremely welcoming, explaining everything with great care and patience, as well as being very kind. The food is amazing and offers great value for money. I highly recommend it!

Stopped by because my friend was hungry, it was good with great deals for lunch ! The meat is tender, as well as everything being flavorful with good portions and quality. Will be back again to try more! Edit: went back again, during dinner this time, they offer hotpot buffet but I declined and ordered sweet sour pork, kung pao chicken, etc. The sweet sour pork is the best. They perfected the velveting technique for meats!

Lucky Star feels exactly like a high-quality Hong Kong-style restaurant, or cha chaan teng, was plucked from Hong Kong and dropped right in the middle of Brighton. They serve extremely delicious and authentic food for very good prices and the staff are friendly and accommodating too. The other day, I grabbed some delicious pork knuckle soup from them to go and was also given some authentic Sichuan maa laat chilli oil which really elevated the whole dish. Other than that, every other time I've had food from them, it was fantastic. I often find myself craving food from them and can't recommend them highly enough. 好鬼好食.

Had some delicious hotpot which was perfect in the winter. All you can eat for £26 wasn't so bad (also comes with a side for 2 people!). The staffs were so helpful if you're a newbie with hotpot ;) Went here several times before for their a la carte dishes and I have no complains. Probably the best Chinese food restaurant in town!

The food were really delicious, very authentic Chinese restaurant with generous portion of the food, and affordable price. This restaurant is highly recommended. The staffs were very nice, and excellent service. When I asked for some tap water, the staff gave hot tap water for me, and cold for my family, amazing, I didn't even tell him that I wanted the tap water to be hot for me. Thank you very much for that.
